FTC AWARDS RESPONSE CENTER CONTRACT TO BIOSPHERICS Biospherics Incorporated (NASDAQ/BINC), Beltsville, Maryland, today announced that the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has "competitively" awarded a call center contract to Biospherics to help the FTC educate and inform the public about unfair or deceptive business acts and practices. The new FTC Consumer Response Center, operated by Biospherics, is equipped with FTC's formidable supply of information that is regularly updated to keep track of the growing number of new frauds and scams. Company information specialists use this FTC database to answer callers' questions. The line will be open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, 5 days a week, starting June 3. The Center also distributes FTC brochures such as "Straight Talk About Telemarketing," "Are You a Target of the Phone Scams?," and "Who Cares? Sources of Information about Health Care Products and Services" to callers requesting them. Altogether, the agency has more than 250 titles, all designed to caution the citizen against unfair or deceptive business practices. The contract has been awarded for one year with two option years. The contract amount is a total of $2,685,960 for the three years. Biospherics, a publicly held firm, will house the new call center at its Beltsville headquarters, where the firm's Information Services Division is known for the high quality of its Government and private call centers.
