CONSOLIDATED RESERVATIONS PROCUREMENT AWARDED TO SPHERIX COMPETITOR

National Park Service Contract to Conclude By the End of 2004

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

BELTSVILLE, MD.  Spherix Incorporated (NASDAQ/SPEX) today announced that the USDA Forest Service did not accept its proposal to provide one-stop reservation services for National Parks and Recreation Areas, instead awarding the contract to a competitor.  This new contract consolidates two contracts, one of which is currently being performed by Spherix.  As a result, Spherix’s current National Park Service contract will expire by year-end unless an extension is granted.

“We have not yet been debriefed as to the basis for USDA’s decision,” said Thomas W. Gantt, Spherix President.  We believe that we offered an outstanding technical solution, have a demonstrably superior record of past performance, and proposed a significantly lower price than our competitor, so we will be very interested to learn why we were not selected.  This project represents an important portion of Spherix’s business and, given the history of this procurement, we intend to carefully review the basis of the award and take all appropriate steps to protect our interests.”
